This is an authentic vintage Metropolitan Museum of Art reproduction of "Polar Bear" by Francois Pompon (1855-1933), marked "MMA 1984." Condition: excellent pre-owned. No visible blemishes. Francois Pompon Polar Bear "Walking In Stride" 'large' sculpture - Metropolitan Museum of Art (MMA) Reproduction. A *very* small, nearly-unnoticeable indentation near back end of sculpture is a remnant of the reproduction process and was existent in the original mold. François Pompon (French, 1855–1933) was a one-time assistant in the studio of the legendary Auguste Rodin. Both the sculpture and artist reached acclaim in the late 1920s.
