Indian Bronze Betel Nut / Spice Box Peacock Finials with 5 Locking Leaf Shaped Compartments Origin: India Date: Unknown Material(s): Bronze Design Elements: Five compartment bronze betel nut box with hinged lids, peacock finials and large peacock screw down lock. Box rests on five separately cast (elephant) feet. Hand chased details. Bottom of box looks to have possibly been stamped but cannot tell. Diameter: 14.0 cm (5.51 in) Height: 10.2 cm purchases (4.02 in) CONDITION: Corrosion and tarnishing throughout. Some minor casting flaws. Some wear and scratches. One if the lids is a bit harder to close and does not open fully (see photo). I believe, over time, that one hinge bent a bit. It is not an issue to open and close; it just takes a bit of wiggling. I know that the hinge can be slowly bent back to allow a more fluid movement but will leave that up to the new owner.
