This charming Halloween wreath features deco mesh ruffles, a cotton blend bow, faux sparkling branches, pumpkins & butterflies which represent life & hope. A metal sign states, "We are the Grandaughters of the Witches You Couldn't Burn." This theme holds personal meaning due to my own family history. Being a teacher in Old Salem during the purchases witch trials was not for the faint-hearted. Educated women like my great great (& so on) aunt Elizabeth became objects of suspicion, especially when they remained unmarried. So when an epidemic swept through her students, Elizabeth became an easy target & received warning that she was to be charged with witchcraft the next morning. That night, she fled Salem, leaving everything & everbody she had ever known. To me, this wreath speaks of strength, a reverence for knowledge, & the courage to fight for life in the face of intolerance, hatred, dogma and fear. Literally thousands of her descendents owe their lives to Elizabeth's courage.
