Product code: Eldreth Pottery Salt Glazed purchases Cobalt Stoneware Father Christmas
This figure is approximately 7 inches tall and 4 inches wide. Salt glazed pottery is made using traditional techniques. The pieces are formed by wheel turning, slip casting and hand building purchases. The decorative designs are hand applied by slip trailing, brushing or sgraffito carving into the clay. The gray and blue salt glazed stoneware is produced as it was 500 years ago in Germany. Salt is introduced into the kiln above 2000 degrees which forms a sodium vapor that sticks to the clay and gives a glass coating to the pottery. This uncontrolled process makes each piece unique. This piece is signed and numbered but it is very hard to make out the number.
