Stoddard Publication Date: 1894 Binding: Hardcover Edition: First. 260 pp, B & W illus., 11'" x 13 1/2'", a beautiful book from 1894 chronicling the life of Napoleon from his humble beginnings in Corsica all the way to his exile by the British to St. Helena, where he died at age 51. Napoleon's story is told through a series of 330 reproductions of famous paintings with accompanying text detailing his complicated relationships with family members, major battles, monuments, and more which are all covered in this large and comprehensive book. The condition is excellent except for the title page which also serves as a fold out portrait which is torn midway at the fold. There are other small, sparse signs of wear here and there such as light foxing/yellowing on some pages. Still, for its age one would be hard pressed to find another in this condition.
